The Routeburn Track is one of New Zealand’s “Great Walks”. The Eastern end rises up from near Glenorchy (at the North end of Lake Wakatipu), through the marvellous evergreen beech forest of the Mt Aspiring National Park. This section can be walked as a day walk, to and from the carpark, without any overnight accommodation or ticketing required.
