Yorkshire

Like any true Yorkshireman, I love my home county. This is one of my favourite bits, coincidentally (or not) very close to one of my favourite pubs, the Lion Inn on Blakey Ridge. This is from the other side of the ridge, looking down into Rosedale from the trackbed of the disused Rosedale Railway, which served a selection of lime kilns (some of which are visible). As you can tell, it was quite chilly!

Italy

I’ve just booked flights to go to Italy in mid-July. We’ll be flying into Genoa, but have no idea where to stay yet. Hopefully somewhere in the Cinque Terre on the Ligurian coastline. But anywhere where we can sit and enjoy scenes like this with a glass of Prosecco or chianti, and some locally grown food. Fab! This picture is from a choir tour to the region in 2006, just before our concert in the Church in Vernazza.

Children’s TV

Of course, everyone believes that the children’s TV when they were growing up was the best. When I was growing up, this was true though! Playschool, with its visits “through the round window” etc, was fun, educational, (oooh – oxford comma there) and must see viewing for any self-respecting 5-year-old in the 1980s. Its successors, Playbus/days and Tellytubbies were just not up to scratch.

On one particularly day, the kids on Playschool all went to the seaside, and clearly the done thing was to go on the pier, and then look through the cracks to the sea. This is what I’m doing above. My parents just couldn’t take me to the seaside without this happening!!

North Cape

In August 2007 I traveled on P&O’s cruise-ship Artemis on a trip to the North Cape of Norway. Whilst there we had close encounters with wild reindeer amongst other creatures of the far north, including a sea otter.

Just a little further up the hill-side from these fully grown 6′ tall reindeer was a smaller, younger white reindeer.
